Muharraq and the Pearling Path

Before oil, Bahrain lived on pearls. This is the trail the pearl merchants walked, and it is the second UNESCO World Heritage Site on the island.

We take the boat across to Bu Maher Fort, where the pearling boats left from, then walk the Pearling Path through old Muharraq past the merchant houses and the oyster warehouses to Nukhidhah House, the captain’s house. We finish at Arad Fort.

Most houses on the Pearling Path are conserved from the outside and are not open inside. You walk the route and enter the four sites that are open. We say this plainly because it is the commonest surprise on this route.

Cannot run on Tuesday (Bu Maher is closed) or Friday (Arad Fort is closed).
